Workshops and Events

Research Services offers workshop modules on-demand, and can develop a workshop specific to the learning needs of the department, unit or college.  These workshops are intended to welcome and introduce faculty who are new to Georgia Southern and/or new to the research enterprise to the institutional units and personnel, resources and best practices, and policies and procedures supporting research activities, including funding opportunities, proposal development, compliance, research integrity and post-award needs.

New faculty and those new to research are strongly encouraged to attend workshops to meet the university’s research administrators and learn of policies and resources pertaining to externally-funded projects. If there is a specific workshop you would like Research Services to host, please contact our office for assistance.

Modules Offered:

Meet the Research Services Team and Services (15 minutes): an overview of the services and assistance provided by Research Services, using the website to direct attendees to relevant sections.
Need: Internet access, computer with screen

Award Management with Research Accounting (30 minutes): Identifying research accountant assigned to each college/division; Responsibilities of grant accountants; Process of purchasing items on grant, hiring GA/RA/Student assistant, and submitting travel reimbursement requests

Research Integrity Introduction to Services (15 minutes): an overview of the services and assistance provided by the Research Integrity, using the website to direct attendees to relevant sections.

Introduction to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Subjects Research (20 – 30 minutes): A deeper dive into human subject research approval review types and processes.
Need: Internet access, computer with screen

Working with the IACUC: Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (10 – 30 minutes): A deeper dive into the use of animal subjects in teaching and research, the approval review types and processes.
Need: Internet access, computer with screen

Drones! Drones! Drones! (10 – 15 minutes): A description of the services available on campus to assist faculty and staff in becoming certified to fly UAS or to access FAA certified pilots for flights.

Responsible Conduct of Research (10-15 minutes): A brief overview of resources available to assist in the mentoring process necessary to infuse the responsible conduct of research into the fabric of faculty and student research.Need: internet access, computer with screen, needs assessment for audience

Funding Opportunities (20 minutes): Using GrantForward to tailor searches and notifications to research-specific keywords and parameters.
Need: Internet access, computer with screen (participants can bring a device to create an account and search parameters)

Internal Funding Opportunities (10-15 minutes): an overview of internal research and scholarship opportunities.
