Welcome From The Vice President

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development promotes excellence in research at Georgia Southern University and provides oversight research, technology commercialization and economic development activities. Research enhances the University’s education and service missions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and advances the development of the region and the State of Georgia.

Georgia Southern’s students and faculty bring their research and scholarly expertise to communities throughout Georgia, the nation, and the world, reaching collaborating institutions, as well as government, foundations, and the corporate community. With a sponsored research portfolio of over $20M in restricted funding from grants and contracts, Georgia Southern faculty scholars are engaged research in research funded by many federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, as well as the State of Georgia and numerous foundations and industries throughout the United States.

In addition to basic research, Georgia Southern University is increasingly involved in commercialization of research through the transfer of new technologies to industry, contributing to the economic development of the region, Georgia and the United States through the efforts of the Georgia Southern University Research and Service Foundation, Inc. Serving as a cooperative organization to the University, the Research and Service Foundation secures grants and contractual obligations from individuals, government and public agencies, industry sponsors and private organizations to support sponsored research and service activities at Georgia Southern University. The Foundation also manages and licenses intellectual property created by faculty, staff and students on behalf of the University.

As one of the largest comprehensive research universities in Georgia, Georgia Southern University has much to offer our students, the State and the Nation.
