As of September 16, 2023, Remote ID will become mandatory for all drones operated in US airspace. The remote id function acts like a digital beacon not unlike the signal broadcast by aircraft, allowing them to be safely integrated into the national airspace system. December 22, 2023 update- Please be aware that the NDAA of 2024 includes the American Security Drone Act through which the government is prohibiting the use of federal funds to purchase or operate (including existing) drones made in China or certain other “covered countries” (eg. Russia) after December of 2025.
